Okayama University has invited the United Nations University (UNU) Rector, Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, to deliver a special lecture on “The United Nations University and its Role in Promoting the SDGs,” based on the latest developments from the “Summit of the Future” held recently at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Okayama University is a member of the “SDG Universities Platform (SDG-UP)” established by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study for Sustainability (UNU-IAS) in 2020 to strengthen SDG initiatives and human resource development in higher education in collaboration with Japanese universities toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to disseminate the results both in Japan and abroad. Since last year, Okayama University has been serving as a moderator of the “Sustainable Campus Subcommittee” and promoting discussions on the sustainable campus that Japanese universities aim for.
In addition, Okayama City has been recognized since 2005 as a center for forming “Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE),” promoted by the United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Higher Education. It has also long been a partner in Education for Sustainable Development-related initiatives in the region.
We look forward to the participation of Okayama University students, faculty, staff, and local residents!
